Bloomframe® is a transformable façade element that turns from a two-frame window partition into a functional balcony, providing the interior space not only with light and air, but moreover with an extra, outdoor area. It is an affordable building component working toward the creation of a flexible living and working environment. The original Bloomframe® balcony is made of steel, glass and aluminium. When in open position, the balcony may load up to 255kgs/m², while the maximum useful floor space is 2.6m (width) by 1m (depth), with a 1.2m (height) parapet. According to the product details, it can be smoothly integrated into new and existing façades, offering variety and adaptability with custom-designed colours, all-weather materials and different dimensions (up to 3m width). It takes 15 seconds for the transformation to complete after the push of a button, with an electric motor operating the balcony at two points, using drawbars. In case of electrical failure there is an emergency manual override. An optional infrared detection is also available. The project has been awarded the 2008 Red Dot Design Award in Germany, the 2008 Audi Design Award in The Netherlands and the 2009 Wallpaper* Magazine Design Award in the category ‘Most-life-enhancing-product’.
